How We Evaluate Supplements

Our 7-step methodology ensures every recommendation is grounded in clinical evidence, not marketing claims. Full transparency in how we research, test, and rank.

Our 7-Step Evaluation Process

Every supplement featured on AgePrime undergoes a rigorous, multi-step evaluation before receiving a recommendation. This process was developed by Dr. James Chen, PhD, and reflects the same standards of evidence used in academic research.

Step 1: Literature Review

We begin every evaluation with a comprehensive review of the published clinical literature. We search PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, and leading journals (Nature, Science, Cell, JAMA) for human clinical trials on the active compound. We prioritize randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies and meta-analyses. Animal and in-vitro studies are noted but weighted significantly lower.

Step 2: Ingredient Analysis

We evaluate the specific ingredient forms used in each product. For example, ubiquinol vs. ubiquinone in CoQ10, or trans-resveratrol vs. cis-resveratrol. We assess bioavailability, stability, dosing relative to clinical evidence, and the presence of absorption-enhancing compounds like piperine or liposomal delivery. Proprietary blends that hide individual ingredient doses receive penalties.

Step 3: Third-Party Testing Verification

We verify independent testing certifications from NSF International, USP, ConsumerLab, Eurofins, and ISO-accredited laboratories. We check for heavy metal testing, microbial contamination screening, and label accuracy verification. Products without verifiable third-party testing are flagged and penalized in our scoring system.

Step 4: Expert Panel Review

Every product evaluation is reviewed by our expert panel: Dr. James Chen (PhD, Molecular Biology), Dr. Sarah Park (PharmD), and Dr. Rachel Liu (RD, CNS). The panel assesses ingredient quality, dosing adequacy, safety considerations, drug interaction potential, and whether marketing claims are supported by the clinical evidence.

Step 5: User Testing Protocol

Each product is purchased at retail price and used by a team member for a minimum of 30 days. We assess practical factors: capsule size, taste (if applicable), digestive tolerance, packaging quality, and consistency across batches. This step ensures our recommendations reflect the real-world user experience, not just laboratory data.

Step 6: Price-Per-Dose Analysis

We calculate the true cost per clinically effective dose for every product. This accounts for differences in serving sizes, capsule counts, and dosing recommendations. A product that requires four capsules to reach the clinical dose at $40 per bottle is not the same value as one that delivers the same dose in one capsule at $30. We also track price history to flag temporary promotions.

Step 7: Final Composite Rating

Products receive a final score based on weighted criteria: Clinical Evidence (30%), Ingredient Quality (25%), Third-Party Testing (20%), Value (15%), and User Experience (10%). Rankings are determined by composite score. Ties are broken by strength of third-party testing. All scores are reviewed quarterly and updated when new research, formulations, or pricing changes occur.

What We Evaluate

Is the active compound supported by human clinical trials? Is the dose in the product consistent with the doses used in those trials? Has an independent laboratory verified what is on the label? These are the three questions we ask about every product. — Dr. James Chen, Lead Researcher

Clinical Evidence (30%)

The strength and quality of the published clinical research supporting the active compound. Human randomized controlled trials carry the most weight. Animal studies and in-vitro research are noted but do not drive rankings.

Ingredient Quality (25%)

The specific forms of ingredients used, their bioavailability, dose relative to clinical evidence, and the absence of unnecessary fillers. Standardized extracts and clinically validated forms score highest.

Third-Party Testing (20%)

Independent verification of label accuracy, purity, and the absence of contaminants. NSF, USP, and ConsumerLab certifications carry the most weight. Certificates of analysis from ISO-accredited labs are also accepted.

Value & Experience (25%)

Price per clinically effective dose, not just per serving. User experience factors including capsule size, digestive tolerance, packaging, and batch consistency. Brand transparency and customer service also contribute to this score.

Our Independence

i

AgePrime never accepts free products, sponsored placements, or payment in exchange for reviews. Our affiliate relationships do not influence rankings. If a product has strong clinical evidence behind it, we recommend it regardless of whether we earn a commission. If a product lacks evidence, we say so regardless of its popularity.

Every member of our research team discloses their credentials, institutional affiliations, and methodology. We believe the longevity supplement space needs more honest, evidence-based voices — and that standard begins with full transparency about how we work and how we are funded.
